On Sunday, September 14, 2025, our congregation gathered in reverent joy as the Confirmation Service, presided over by the Archbishop of Calgary, was held at St. Francis Anglican Church. It was a deeply moving moment—one of faith affirmed, Holy Spirit invoked, and lives committed publicly to Christ.

The Weight and Wonder of Confirmation

From the opening worship to the laying on of hands, the service echoed with the sacredness of transition. Those being confirmed stood before the Body of Christ, supported by sponsors, family, and friends, as the Archbishop prayed over them, asking for the gifts of the Spirit—wisdom, courage, devotion—to empower their Christian walk.

In the stillness, we were reminded that Confirmation is not an endpoint, but a beginning: the moment when a soul affirms the promises made at baptism, and receives strength for the journey ahead.

Highlights & Reflections

  • The worship was both joyful and contemplative, blending hymns, scripture, and prayer to create space for both awe and thanksgiving.

  • The Archbishop’s sermon challenged us to live boldly in faith, to be visible lights in our community, and to lean on God’s presence in every challenge.

  • Each confirmand received the sign of the cross and prayer, accompanied by the laying on of hands—a symbol that they are now fully recognized as part of Christ’s body.

  • The congregation responded with applause, tears, and a deep sense of unity, remembering our own journeys of faith and celebrating these new milestones.

What It Means for St. Francis

This Confirmation Service marks a new chapter for our parish. In those brave hearts who stood forward, we see not only their personal commitment, but also a fresh outpouring of life for our collective community. Their courage inspires us all to recommit, to grow, and to step into the next season with faith.
